Judicial Procedure

  • Mission Statement

The mission of the IFC Judicial Board at the Univeristy of North Texas is one of education and prevention. Our purpose is to confront and correct the actions of chapters who may violate the policies of the IFC, to establish judicial precedents, to focus on education and chapter development, and to hear cases in an unbiased manner.  We realize that our policies are more than a set of rules; they are statements of our institutional values and the ethical and moral devlopment we nurture as a Greek Community.  With this realization we understand that as a Judicial Board we speak not only for the IFC community, but also for the Greek community, and the University of North Texas community and also that we are communicating the ethics of respect and fairness that we expect in our community through our decisions. As a Judicial Board it is our mission to promote self-governance and community standards through confidential peer review and to guarantee due process so that every opportunity is extended to seek the truth in matters being reviewed.  If a chapter is found responsible, it is our responsiblity to levy sanctions that are primarily educational in nature; it is equally important for us to investigate why an incident occurred, the likelihood that the incident could be repeated elsewhere in the system, and how to best engage the individuals involved in an activity which will help remove the cause of the problem and not simply respond to the specific incident.

Above all else, we should be guided in our actions by a strong sense of fairness, non-partisanship and friendship. The Judicial Board is a committee of peers whose strength should lie in our ability to understand and relate to the issues brought before us.  Finally, we should all remember that college is a place for education. The Greek system enriches that education, and we are to assist in the achievement of that goal.
