Letter from President

  • Letter from the President

The University of North Texas has brought many great opportunities to me. On top of providing an education that many do not have the chance to obtain, I have had the opportunity to be involved in something that is much bigger than me. I arrived at North Texas in the fall of 2010 to begin my schooling and the thought of “Going Greek” had crossed my mind, but not in a positive manner. The stereotype that many associate with fraternities was ever present in my mind: That is until I met two very important individuals. One was the IFC President at the time; the other one was his successor. Both men broke down that stereotype and opened my eyes to what true brotherhood and life within a prestigious organization can offer. To them and the entire Greek Community, I would like to say thank you for opening my eyes, heart, and mind to opportunities that I have experienced and for those to come.

Upon pledging in the Fall of 2010, I entered my fraternity as a boy. Now, in 2012, I feel that I am much closer to being the man that I want to be. If anyone were to ask me what made this change, my answer would undoubtedly be “Going Greek.” Words cannot express the gratitude and overall pleasure that I have for my University of North Texas Greek Community.

To incoming students, take advantage of everything that North Texas can offer. The opportunities are endless and success is at your doorstep, but in order to have one of the greatest college experiences I encourage you to consider Greek Life. Being in an organization that falls under the Interfraternity Council has provided me with much more than opportunities. I have not only gained friends, but also brothers (some of which do not wear the same letters as I). Greek Life is not just an organization; it is a lifelong commitment, a lifestyle. Fraternities allow one to take away memories, characteristics, and professionalism that are always critical for success in the various faucets of life. Just take a look at the success that North Texas Greeks have had since 1952.

I proudly serve IFC as the President with the hopes of providing others with the pure happiness that I have had being a member of a fraternity. I will forever and always wear my letters, my badge, and the pride of my fraternity on my chest. Upon reading the words of Yousef Al Khan, a man that brought me into this community, I could not agree more with his definition of fraternity.

“My Greek letters helped to make me the person I am today.  I learned about responsibility, leadership, and what true friendships are all about.  If I had to sum up in one word what “fraternity” means to me, most definitely it would have to be “forever".  Friendships that last forever, memories that last forever, and a bond that lasts forever.”

It is an honor to be the IFC President for 2012 and a privilege to serve Greek Life of the great University of North Texas.

    Fraternally,

    Christopher King Turner

    Interfraternity Council President
