Discover Greek Life!

Since 1952, the University of North Texas Greek community has been a viable and integral part of campus life. With four councils consisting of 35 fraternities and sororities, our Greek community offers a unique and lifelong involvement experience. Membership in a Greek organization can be one of the most significant experiences for a college student. The value of Greek Life for students who choose to participate is the melding of almost every segment of the campus community into one cohesive program. Greek Life promotes the experience of self-governance, leadership development, academic achievement, community service, social opportunities and friendship. Please feel free to utilize our site to learn more about membership in an IFC fraternity, as well as learn about the formal recruitment process, and also IFC in general.

Conduct:

The Texas Legislature has enacted a law prohibiting hazing at educational institutions. The law also requires that anyone aware of hazing incidents must report them. Failure to comply with the specific provisions of the law will result in criminal penalties and fines. A copy of the law in its entirety is available from the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities or from the Student Activities and Organizations office in the University Union.

Housing:

Through a cooperative relationship with UNT, several fraternities and sororities have houses on campus. Currently, five sororities occupy chapter houses adjacent to campus and another owns a lodge nearby. Currently, six fraternities own houses adjacent to campus, while one fraternity house is a few blocks from campus.

Finances:

As a member of the Greek community, you'll find many opportunities to gain the experience needed to become an effective leader. Fraternities and sororities are self-governing, giving members numerous leadership possibilities. Greek life offers leadership training campus wide and through individual chapters.

Service and Philanthropy:

The Greek community's interests and concerns are not limited to the UNT campus. Fraternities and sororities sponsor several activities each year that benefit the local community and raise funds for special causes. The ability to give of yourself is an important quality you can develop or cultivate while a member of the Greek community.

Campus Involvement:

Each year, Greek members participate in a variety of UNT organizations and events. Greek life may help you become involved in student government, special interests clubs and organizations, and intramural sports. Finding a balance between academics and social activities is important in your college life, and involvement in both areas will provide you with a well-rounded college experience.

 Academics:

A primary purpose of the Greek community is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Fraternities and sororities offer many resources and educational opportunities to facilitate high-quality learning.

Academic support includes national and local scholarships, incentives and awards, time management training and workshops, tutoring and mentoring programs, established study sessions and quiet hours, grade point average requirements, available study space and computer access.
